Almost 90 percent of Americans say if they were exhibiting confusion and memory loss they would want to know if the cause of the symptoms was Alzheimer’s disease. Keeping a dementia diagnosis makes it challenging for a patient and his/her family to formulate a plan for the future and access vital supports and resources. Because Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias have no cure and treatments that only stave off symptoms temporarily you may feel trepidation about having the conversation.
